Work starts on Manchester Staycity aparthotel

Contractor Bardsley Construction has started building work on a Staycity aparthotel in central Manchester.

The Tameside firm secured the £17 million contract to provide the eight-storey aparthotel located on Mason Street, in the New Cross neighbourhood.

The 224-key scheme will feature 48 one-bedroom and 176 studio apartments with reception, cafe and gym. Completion is due in December 2019.

The client project team includes architect SimpsonHaugh, structural engineer SHED, mechanical and electrical engineer JH Partners and employer's agent/quantity surveyor, AFA.

Ged Rooney, procurement director at Bardsley Construction, said: "Bardsley is an increasingly active player in the delivery of high quality hotel accommodation in Manchester where demand for new hospitality space continues to rise as the city improves its international connections with a truly global visitor market."

The property will be the third Staycity aparthotel in Manchester alongside its Laystall Street and Manchester Piccadilly properties, with a further two to follow.

For me, the most important thing is the networking. My business is in a small city and you need to be in an environment with people that are talking about ideas, giving you a new perspective. The workshops are also like having a family where you can talk about your main issues and they will understand.
